Christmas Wrapping Paper

Over the weekend I found some wrapping paper with brown people on them. I was so excited and even more excited when I found out whose line of paper it was. T.D Jakes has his own line of wrapping paper designed with us in mind. I found it at Walmart and encourage everyone to go out and get some. You can save it for next year's wrapping if you've already wrapped your gifts this year.

Good Read Of The Month

Jennifer Baszile's mother and father didn't grow up having everything, but, like most parents do, they worked to make sure their children would. As soon as they could, they moved their family to the California suburb of Palos Verdes, even if it meant they had to make longer commutes to work. Jennifer and her sister Natalie attended the best schools in the area, and their parents expected them to work hard and eventually go to college.

That's nothing out of the ordinary, except that to the Basziles' mainly white neighbors, the family was strange, an aberration, and they did not belong in the neighborhood. Soon after moving, someone scrawled a racist note on their sidewalk. Another night, a vandal snuck into the family's courtyard and painted their fountain black. Mr. and Mrs. Baszile, no strangers to racism, refused to get emotional; they simply cleaned the sidewalk and made a stance not to leave the neighborhood.

God Made Moms To Teach Their Children....To Be The Bigger Person

Almost lost a friend today because I was ready to READ her and leave her for dead but because I'm bigger than that I gave her a pass. Some times people dish stuff that they definitely could not handle if it was given back. I listened to that small still voice and spared her a ripping because she didn't deserve the emotional hurt my words would have cause her and her broken ego. Thank God for His grace and I thank HIM that I am not where or what I use to be. So glad I'm conscience enough to know that the BIGGER person gains much. How wonderful to be able to pass this on to my kids. Teaching them to take the high road to to be the bigger person, could save them, their friends, and their future spouses a lot of unnecessary heartaches and headaches.

God Made Moms To Teach...Sons and Daughters What's Appropriate Dress

This tidbit is a result of something I witnessed on yesterday and something I talk about with my oldest son all the time. On my way to work I pass an alternative school so it's a habit for me to take notice of the kids going to school. Well on yesterday I witnessed two young girls being gawked by two delivery men. I was staring at them too, their clothes and their choice of hair got them extra attention. Both young ladies looked to be between 16 and 17 years old but judging their choice of dress and hair(wigs) they could easily be mistaken as women above twenty-five. The average girl these days are well developed because of the extra hormones they get through the food we eat, so they look older then what they are. But why do they dress so provocative to go to school? Why wear 25 inch long weaves, 5 1/2 inch stilettos, and skintight pants to school or even to work because there are older women sporting the same dress to work. All that extra is so distracting and sad! What happen to hiding or covering up your goodies? I have three boys so I don't have to dress young girls but we got to teach our girls as well as our boys how to dress. Underwear for one should not be seen and I'm seeing too many people showing off their underwear. It's called underwear because it's suppose to be hidden under clothes. I may be old fashioned but it's not a good look. I always thought the less skin you showed the more mysterious you were, gave people something to wonder about. Why show everything to everybody? So parents if you are still buying clothes for your kids, please buy clothes that cover up their bodies, less skin has always been more. And some skins don't need to be seen at all. And to my sons keep your zippers and your pants up!

Be blessed and encouraged today, it's your choice. ~Delphine

Titus 2:1-7 You must teach what is in accord with sound doctrine. Teach the older men to be temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled, and sound in faith, in love and in endurance.Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. Then they can train the younger women to love their husbands and children, 5to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.Similarly, encourage the young men to be self-controlled. In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness 8and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us.

God Made Moms To Teach Kids....Wisdom Comes With Age

After having conversations with two of sons this past weekend about using their heads(brains). I was told I was just old fashioned. We were having a talk about managing time, what they watch on tv, turning in homework on time, getting to work and class on time, paying attention to how they speak to their parents and brothers, the way they wear their clothes, on being a responsible person (Employee, son, brother, boyfriend, friend)and about who they call friend. After being told I was being old fashioned, I told them time will tell. I also reminded them that I was once their age and had learned from experience. Experience had been my teacher and every lesson she served wasn't an easy one, sometimes I had to learn the hard way. I took from the conversation that somethings I will have to let them learn on their own. But one thing is sure, wisdom comes with age rather they decide to use it or not, it is their decision. So when the consequences come rather good or bad, and i pray that it's all good, I will remind them that WISDOM COMES WITH AGE. Living wiser could provide them a long life.

God Made Moms To Teach....Followers of Christ Have Responsibilities

I had a co worker to pass from complications due to cancer treatments this past weekend. It saddens me to know someone has passed on and left a family behind but as a Christian, I believe he has just moved on to a better life. The truth of the matter is, I wasn't one of those who helped him to get to a better life and I had worked close with him for over 7 years. Not once had I asked him the simple question of have you ever accepted Jesus Christ as your personal savior. But thank God for having another watchmen or Christian co-worker in place. One of my other coworkers lead him to Christ just a week before he died. She lead him through the sinner's prayer and he accepted Christ right in her office. It didn't take much, just a quick "yes" or "no" question, and directions on how to accept Christ. It saddens me to think about how many people and paths that I have let cross me and I not ask "are you in the body" or "have you accepted Jesus Christ as your personal savior", makes me search myself and question am I attempting to do what I should be doing as a follower of God's word and of Christ.

God Made Moms To Teach Their Children…Live To Give

(These are not my words; they are from Joel Osteen)

God wants you to be happy! He wants you to live a satisfied life. Jesus said, “I have come that you might have and enjoy life, and have it to the full – unit it overflows!” A major key to enjoying life is that we live to give.

True happiness and true fulfillment come when you give your life in some way to others. God promises to multiply back to you what you give. When you step out in faith, you open a door for God’s hand of blessing to move on your behalf. It’s the simple principle of sowing and reaping.

God has a specific plan for every one of our lives. His plan involves reaching out and touching other people with His love, mercy and compassion. Ask the Lord to show you how you can share His love with others by giving of your time, your talents and your resources today.

God Made Moms To Teach Their Children....There Is More To Being A Christian

Friends, there is more to being a Christian than going to church or reciting scriptures but many of today's Christians don't understand that. We who consider ourselves Christians or children of God should use Jesus as our example. Jesus never had to go about disclosing who he was, his actions did the talking for him. There were also times that God Himself spoke clearly stating that Jesus was indeed His son. There is plenty for us to walk away with from the bible because HIS word is a guide for those who believe. But why do we choose to just walk away with the small things and expect to conquer or gain big things. God's word is and was a way of life for many. God also gave us free will and it is up to each individual to accept what He offers so freely and that's FREEDOM in knowing HIM through His word. There is a scripture in 2 Corinthians 3:17 that reads Now the Lord is the Spirit and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. I am glad to say that I have His spirit and that I recognize that it is His spirit that offers me the freedom to live as a child of God no matter what any other man might say or think. Christ does not place us in bondage, men and traditions of men do.

An American Odyssey

At Ballou Senior High, a crime-infested school in Washington, D.C., honor students have learned to keep their heads down. Like most inner-city kids, they know that any special attention in a place this dangerous can make you a target of violence. But Cedric Jennings will not swallow his pride, and with unwavering support from his mother, he studies and strives as if his life depends on it--and it does. The summer after his junior year, at a program for minorities at MIT, he gets a fleeting glimpse of life outside, a glimpse that turns into a face-on challenge one year later: acceptance into Brown University, an Ivy League school.

At Brown, finding himself far behind most of the other freshmen, Cedric must manage a bewildering array of intellectual and social challenges. Cedric had hoped that at college he would finally find a place to fit in, but he discovers he has little in common with either the white students, many of whom come from privileged backgrounds, or the middle-class blacks. Having traveled too far to turn back, Cedric is left to rely on his faith, his intelligence, and his determination to keep alive his hope in the unseen--a future of acceptance and reward that he struggles, each day, to envision.

God Made Moms To Teach Their Children...That Everyone Has Responsibilities

Recently while having a conversation with one of my boys, the comment was made that it was not his responsibility. I responded, everyone in this family has to be responsible and we all have responsibilities when it comes to each other. I explained to him that if we didn't provide him shelter, him food, him clothes, and all his other living expenses and/or desires, whose responsibility would it be? Would it be his alone? Who would step in to take care of him, if we didn't. His answer was that is what parents are suppose to do. So I replied kids are suppose to do what their parents tell them to do especially when they are the ones taking care of them. Never bite the hands that feed you I said. I also told him, there are many parents who do not take responsibly for their children, just like there are kids who do not want to take on responsibilities for themselves but if you want to continue to be provided for, you have to take on some responsibilities of your own. I told him someday he would understand and appreciate being responsible. Ladies, my son was complaining about having to help his younger brother pick up after himself but the point I was trying to make to him was that we all have responsibilities as family.

Good Read of the Month

This is a book I'm reading with a book club I'm in and I thought it would be a good Good Read of The Month. I just started reading but the beginning of it reads like a keeper. Enjoy the read. Also I am proud to say, I read a total of four books last month. How many did you read?

The Alchemist presents a simple fable, based on simple truths and places it in a highly unique situation. And though we may sniff a bestselling formula, it is certainly not a new one: even the ancient tribal storytellers knew that this is the most successful method of entertaining an audience while slipping in a lesson or two. Brazilian storyteller Paulo Coehlo introduces Santiago, an Andalusian shepherd boy who one night dreams of a distant treasure in the Egyptian pyramids. And so he's off: leaving Spain to literally follow his dream.
Along the way he meets many spiritual messengers, who come in unassuming forms such as a camel driver and a well-read Englishman. In one of the Englishman's books, Santiago first learns about the alchemists--men who believed that if a metal were heated for many years, it would free itself of all its individual properties, and what was left would be the "Soul of the World." Of course he does eventually meet an alchemist, and the ensuing student-teacher relationship clarifies much of the boy's misguided agenda, while also emboldening him to stay true to his dreams. "My heart is afraid that it will have to suffer," the boy confides to the alchemist one night as they look up at a moonless night.

"Tell your heart that the fear of suffering is worse than the suffering itself," the alchemist replies. "And that no heart has ever suffered when it goes in search of its dreams, because every second of the search is a second's encounter with God and with eternity."

God Made Moms To Encourage Their Kids....To Try Something Different

While on summer vacation I was forced to let some of my parental guards down and allowed my children to go snorkeling in waters as deep as 130 ft. After seeing them enjoy it and being so comfortable in water that deep. The idea of surfing lessons, swimming with giant sea turtles, and exploring open water lava tubes came with easy answers. Yes, we can do it. I enjoyed our adventures immensely. Who knew my brown babies would be so good at surfing. Who ever said black folk don't swim lied. Because of the memories made, I'm glad I didn't hold them back from their adventures, I actually encouraged them in doing something different and got just has much joy out of it as they did. But before you think I went to Maui and lost my mind. I did say prayers of covering and I prayed for guidance. I also asked for wisdom and confidence, wisdom and confidence I passed on to them. Me not encouraging them to go for it, could have stunt the growth and self confidence, I witnessed in them both. I dare not discourage them after I've been telling them that they can do anything they put their minds to. My tidbit today is to encourage you to encourage your kids to try and do something different, they may end up liking it and being successful at it. Making everyone happy, someone tried something different.

God Made Moms To Teach Their Children...About Excellence

The scripture below encourages us to put our best foot forward in all we do. When we put in our best, give our best, and strive for excellence we reap the benefits/rewards of Excellence. Be encouraged to do your best in all that you do, no matter how big or small the task my be.

1 Corinthians 3:8-13 (New International Version)

8 The man who plants and the man who waters have one purpose, and each will be rewarded according to his own labor. 9 For we are God's fellow workers; you are God's field, God's building. 10 By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as an expert builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should be careful how he builds. 11For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 If any man builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, 13his work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man's work.

God Made Moms To Teach Their Children...To Reach Higher

While I was listening to the Michael Baisden radio show on last week, I heard one of the guest say concerning kids and their friends that if they are the smartest one in the group, they are in the wrong group. Wow!!!! This triggered something in me that laid dormant for years and reminded me of words that I heard years ago while I was a student in the Upward Bound Program. " Pride Kids Reach Higher ", this is what I was told. Mr. Pride was the Director of the Upward Bound Program on USF's campus and he considered all of us his children, he expected more out of children. Thanks to Mr. Pride, his teachings, his patience, the upward bound staff, friends of like minds, and dreams of my own, I was encouraged to reach beyond mediocracy. I thank God for all the prayers and seeds planted earlier on in my life. I may not be where others are but I thank God I'm still able to reach higher and dream higher than I would have had I not been told that I could go further if I worked harder. Since I was encouraged to reach higher I would not dare deprive my children of the same. I'm encouraged to reclaim and to pass on the dream of others that existed before me. So to all children and adults alike I encourage you to reach higher by working harder. Aspire to do more in your life time, we all have more in our reach, much more than the many that came before us.

God Made Moms To Teach...The Difference Between Selfish and Determined

This pass weekend I was the "Upset" being. I received some disappointing news and my disappointment turning into anger which then caused a verbal pow wow between my husband and I. I tell you I felt I had every right to be upset and it appeared I had no one siding with me. In the mist of one of my many discussions with my husband this weekend I was told I was selfish. Well that's when the uglier person showed her face, our discussion went from bad to worst in just a few seconds. I could not understand how I was being selfish for expressing how I felt. Let me tell you I am one of those women who will not rest until it's over and my husband on the other hand will let me vent, rant, rave, scream, curse, or whatever I need to do but he will not entertain me by practicing in it or allow me to draw him into my temper tantrums as he puts it. So to make a long story short, I end up being the frustrated and annoyed one because I couldn't get him to see that it was my disappointment that caused me to be angry and not just that I wanted my way. Well I did not get my way entirely but I did get something much better in return, a lesson on expressing exactly what I'm feeling but in a different way and a trip to Maui to replace the trip I was disappointed about. So now I need to work on improving my way of showing that I am determined without coming off as a selfish individual. God is good!

Good Read Of The Month

Phillips's searing debut reveals the poverty, injustices and cruelties that one black family suffers—some of this at the hands of its matriarch—in a 1958 backwater Georgia town. Thirteen-year-old Tangy Mae Quinn loves her mother, Rozelle, but knows there's "something wrong" with her—which, as it soon becomes clear, is an extreme understatement. As the novel opens, Rozelle is getting ready to give birth to her 10th child (by a 10th father) and thinking about forcing the obedient Tangy Mae, who longs to stay in school, to take over her housecleaning job. Using a large cast of powerfully drawn characters, Phillips captures life in a town that serves as a microcosm of a world on the brink of change. There's Junior, the perpetual optimist, who wants to teach people to read and write so they can understand the injustices of Jim Crow laws and the Ku Klux Klan; Hambone, a here today/gone tomorrow rabble-rouser whose anger against white men and their laws inflames those around him; and Miss Pearl, the only true friend to the Quinn family. At the dark heart of the story is Rozelle, the beautiful mixed-race head of the Quinn family whose erratic mood swings, heart-wrenching cruelty and deep emotional distress leave an indelible mark on all her children. Through all the violence and hardship breathes the remarkable spirit of Tangy Mae, who is wise beyond her years; forced to do unspeakable things by her mother and discriminated against by the town's whites, she manages to survive and to rescue a younger sister from the same fate.

God Made Moms To Teach Their Children...The Meanings of Prejudice and Racism

Since the election of our President it appears there has been an increase in the media's reporting of comments/actions that are prejudice or racist. People there is nothing new about being prejudice or racism. My post today is not to glorify being prejudice or racism, my post is about us recognizing that overall nothing has changed when it comes to people being prejudice or racism. They both have always existed. We all experience it. Our children experience it at school, in the community, and in sports. We experience it on our jobs, in restaurants and shops, in churches, and sadly in our own families. We as a people have a lengthy history of having been victims of prejudice acts or racism but we also have a lengthy history of being and committing acts that are prejudice or racist ourselves. We are just as guilty as anyone else. So let's not point fingers at others when we need to search our hearts and minds as well. Look up the definitions of prejudice and racism and decide if you fit the label of being prejudice or a racist. Like the ole saying goes, "divided we fall, united we stand". Let's get rid of the foolery among ourselves first.

God Made Moms To Teach Their Children...They Are Beautiful And Smart

A few weeks ago I wrote on the importance of nurturing and building up our children through our words, I have also written about beauty being in the eye of the beholder. Well while reading the book selection of the month these words came across a page, questions we should consider asking ourselves on a regular basis. Questions that may help us in our roles as mothers.

Why do we remember the words of our mother more than any other? Why does a mother's assessment of her daughter resonate in the chambers of that daughters heart like the Ten Commandments? Like the laws of gravity? Like a destiny that
you simply cannot escape?

So tell me why do mothers have so much influence, so much power over their daughters and over their children? Is it just because they carried them for nine months? Or is it because they are just pieces of their mothers? Something to ponder on, uh? Mothers are and always have been very influential in their children's lives. So that's why it's important for us to tell our children that they are beautiful, that they are smart, that they can achieve and be anything or anyone they want to be. We are the ones to encourage them to reach for the stars, to see beyond what their eyes can see. We are the ones whose words they remember. So with this much influence over another being, why wouldn't we choose our words wisely? We are planting seeds that will dwell with our children for life. Show them and tell them they are beautiful to you because every child should be beautiful in a mother's eye.

God Made Moms To Teach Children...To Be Respectful

Respect should always be given to elders but it's much easier to respect those elders who don't push your buttons. My tidbit on respect is that we should respect ourselves as well as others. When we allow ourselves to accept the difference in our co-workers, our spouses, our supervisors, our employees, our children, our parents, our teachers, our childcare givers, our beauticians, our neighbors, our friends, and others we come in contact with, we open up the pathway to be treated RESPECTFUL or RESPECTFULLY.

Be blessed and encouraged today, it's your choice.~Delphine

Definition of Respectful
re⋅spect⋅ful  full of, characterized by, or showing politeness or deference: a respectful reply.

—Synonyms
courteous, polite, decorous, civil, deferential.

—Antonyms
discourteous, disrespectful.

1 Peter 2:16-18 Live as free men, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as servants of God. Show proper respect to everyone: Love the brotherhood of believers, fear God, honor the king.

God Made Moms To Teach Children...Parents Build You Up

Most of us have seen or heard some famous person pay accolades or express their appreciation to their parents for always being in their corner, for always being supportive, for always being firm when they needed to be, for speaking life, for making sacrifices, for all the wisdom they have passed on, for correcting them when they were wrong, and for just loving them. Seldom do we hear persons express appreciation to their parents for tearing them down, for speaking negative, for trying to manipulate, for being jealous, or for them trying to relive their lives through their children. Parents are to build up their children not tear them down. Mothers are to nurture the children and their home by loving them and showing them love. Fathers nurture their children by showing them and their mothers love and patience, by providing and protecting, by disciplining when discipline or correction is needed. Parents build children up, parents do not tear children down. Many parents today are reflections of their parents but as parents ourselves we choose what parents our children see. So decide what type of parent you want your child to say you are or were. There is more to parenting then providing food, clothes, and shelter.

Be blessed and encouraged today, it's your choice. ~ Delphine

Proverbs 17:6 Children's children are a crown to the aged, and parents are the pride of their children.

John 9:23 That was why his parents said, "He is of age; ask him."

2 Corinthians 12:14 Now I am ready to visit you for the third time, and I will not be a burden to you, because what I want is not your possessions but you. After all, children should not have to save up for their parents, but parents for their children.

What Is Good Hair? Video from the Tyra Banks Show

The mothers and the daughters in this video represents the mindset of many of us when it comes to our hair. I too permed my hair at age eighteen, I started wearing weave braids at age twenty-two, and later on moved on to half wigs. At thirty-seven, I decided I liked more natural looking hairstyles and decided to transition back to my natural hair. I've had thick and lengthy hair most of my life so having thick hair with length was never a issue for me. But it happens to be one of the biggest reasons why most women decide on weave, aside from the convenience that some weaves offer. The majority of today's glued-in/sewed-in weaves are for the length and fullness we carve for our hair, without realizing that the over perming and the heating and weaving methods are thinning out our natural hair. Ladies, I do not miss perming my hair nor the cost that comes with maintaining permed hair. And since I've been wearing my natural hair, I've embraced new freedoms. I enjoy living "hair stress" free. I even get tickled when my friends say without thinking that "your hair WAS so pretty", I'm tickled for reasons only natural hair wearers would understand but I politely tell them that I think it's still pretty. Don't get me wrong, I'm not pressing or saying everyone should go natural because you can make that decision on your own. I'm only expressing my happiness with my decision on wearing my natural hair and I want us as women to be more conscious of what we are passing on to our children. The video highlights the dislike we are passing on and it makes me sad. It's so sad that we are willing to do so much to our hair or our daughters hair to supposedly be accepted in mainstream but we are not as eager to do things that elevate us as individuals so that we become individuals that mainstream needs. We should be free thinking enough to enjoy who God create us to be. I hope this gives you something to think on.

Black Economic Solutions from Blaqueindigo

Blaqueindigo has given me an idea. I plan on posting a black owned business each month that we should try and patronize. And if we can't patronize them, maybe we will be encouraged to seek out black owned business in our towns and communities. I have several friends who are black business owners and I can use this venue to generate more business for them.

Need a car wash, need your clothes dry cleaned, need your taxes done, need a new place to stay, need a hair do, or do you need helping planning a trip. I have people, if you need the service.

Good Read of The Month

The reviews on this book sparked my attention but once I read some of the book's excerpt, I knew it was a must read. Here's a small peek of what lies inside. Enjoy and grow.

I was eight years old the day my mother warned me not to play in the sun and I already knew that I was invisible. I had not read Ralph Ellison's Invisible Man. Toni Morrison had not yet written The Bluest Eye. But already I had tasted the essence of racial and colorist tragedy. I feasted on it every day. I had parents who loved me, a nurturing family, many friends. I was smart in school, was often considered the teacher's pet. And I also knew that the specific physical traits that comprised my racial identity were despised.

Words had informed me of this. The words from family and friends that showered praise and compliments on lighter hued, straighter haired children for their beauty, words that I never heard used to describe brown to black children. Words like "Isn't she so pretty?" uttered with a sharp intake of stunned breath, eyes bulging in near-disbelief, at the sight of a curly haired light-skinned toddler. Words like "Just look at that hair!" (Translation: it was long, straight, thick.)

"Look at those eyes" (Translation: maybe they were light brown or green or grey). All the words I heard. All the words I read. And for a long time, all the words I could imagine thinking or writing supported skin color apartheid. As a child, I already knew that the world was a pigmentocracy. And I knew where I fit in that hierarchy.

God Made Moms To Teach...There Is A Will and A Way

"Where there's a will there's a way", we all have used the proverb but I don't think we fully recognize what is being said. Friends, there has always been a will and there has always been a way. God's will has always existed and so has the way. He willed us into existence, did he not? Seldom do we pray or act in God's will only and the way many of us choose to live our lives is a testament of that. A lot of times we pray and act out of self fulfillment and what I mean by this is that we only pray for our wills to be done and not just that His will be done. The moral of this short story is there has always been a will and there has always been a way but we as children of the most high god must be able to discern if it is His will being done or just our will creating the way.

Be blessed and encouraged today, it's your choice. ~ Delphine

Romans 12:2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.

One of Our Many Beautiful Brown Moms

The first lady is representing us well. I love seeing the Obama family enjoying their life in the White House and as our first family. Michelle is such a beautiful brown woman. She and Barack make a beautiful couple.

Love this photo, check out the couple in the back. You know their whispering about how good the President and the first lady look. I think we all need to get on the Obama workout plan because they both are bringing it!

God Made Moms To Teach...Pray For Others But Especially When They Come To Mind.

Some times God will lay a person on your heart because He wants you to pray for that person or He wants you to reach out to that person. The other night God placed one of my a friends on my mind. I had not spoken with her in a year but I had had thoughts of her a time or two over the past few of weeks. Over the year, I could have reached out by sending her an email but I didn't have her email address. I could have called but since she lives in another country I had to plan the call ahead of time since we are six hours behind them in time. Well last week while I was laying in bed I started thinking about her. I looked at my cell phone but couldn't call her this time of night. I looked at her local number and called it. I didn't expect an answer I was just going to leave a message. Well I got an answer on the third ring and my friend had been in town for almost four weeks. She was an emotional wreck. I had called at the perfect time because she really needed a friend. She needed someone to listen and even though I was really tired, I listened to her talk and vent for an hour or so. Now I have an idea of what I need to pray since I made the call. It amazes me how God moves. But it's a awesome system. Like I said, I had thoughts of her a few weeks back, I wish I had acted on those thoughts then but I hadn't. I guess I was finally still enough for God to move me to call her even though I had no idea she was back in the states. So when someone is on your mind, pray for them or reach out to them. You never know what your prayers are doing or what a call can do for them. You very well may be preserving a life.

Be blessed and encouraged today, it's your choice.~ Delphine

Romans 8:26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.

3 John 1:2 Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.

God Made Moms To Teach...Our Ways/Thoughts Are Not Always His Ways/Thoughts

I had a conversation with one of my girlfriends over the weekend about parents(our parents) and the choices they have made. We clearly disagreed on how parents who have made choices we disagreed with should not even expect or seek our help. The conversation really bothered me but as friends do, we agreed to disagree and that was it. Well over the last couple of days I'm still thinking about our conversation and "why" she felt the way she did and this is what was placed in my spirit this morning "our thoughts are not his thoughts". I've learned that I will not always be able to get the answers I seek to my "why" questions because we all are different and different folk have different answers, feelings, ways, and thoughts. Friends, I really don't know if I'm using what was placed in my spirit out of context but it has allowed me to accept my friend's thoughts on a very touchy subject. I also recognize that some times our actions are not aligned with what God would want or have us to do. We sometimes pay the price for not seeking His will and sometimes He renders His grace and mercy upon us and actions ahead of time. Our ways/thoughts are not always His ways/thoughts but we still can try and seek His will for us in all things, even in helping our parents through the results of what we deem as bad choices.

God Made Moms To Teach Their Children...Discipline And Wisdom Go Hand and Hand

When we display any type of discipline to listen, to observe, and to learn , we are disciplined enough to do what's right even when we want to do wrong. When we make the decision to do what is good or right for ourselves/families, no matter what it looks like at the time or feels like at the time we are using wisdom. Wisdom can get us through the long haul. That's why I think discipline and wisdom go hand and hand. It takes a disciplined person to be an example of wisdom to their kids and family.

Proverbs 1:7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.

James 1:4-6 Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.

Knowledge Dropping by Blaqueindigo

Ladies, I posted one of Blaqueindigo's videos several months ago and found her videos to be thought provoking. Here's a recent video of her encouraging us to use logic and common sense. Enjoy the video. We all need to be reminded every now and then.

Happy Earth Day

Acknowledge the beauty surrounding you by thanking God for what He created. In the bible , Genesis 1 describes how the earth was formless and empty until God spoke. Think of all the power He has just to be able to speak stuff into existence. Take a true look around today and continue to bless Him for all the things we take for granted -- like the air we breath. Thank God for being among the living because the living can still consciously enjoy all that the earth provides.

Happy Earth Day.

God Made Moms To Teach...Great Is God's Mercy

My family had a personal breakthrough this month. A breakthrough that only God our Father could have provided. I praise God for answered prayers and for Him delivering answers in HIS own time. My tidbit and inner shout this morning is in acknowledgment of God's mercy towards us. God is forever faithful towards us even when we are not faithful towards HIM. I bless God this morning for HIS grace and HIS mercy. I even ask Him within this post and out in the open to forgive me for ever doubting HIM and HIS power. Many of you who REALLY know me, know of the struggles I've endured and how God has always provided endurance, grace, favor, and mercy. HE has always orchestrated a way of escape. An escape only HE could provide. Again, I bless God for HIS love, HIS kindness, HIS faithfulness, HIS mercy, HIS grace, and all HIS empowerment. I bless God and praise Him today from the deepest part of my heart, the place where fear and doubt has resided. I bless Him for empowering me to search my own heart, I bless Him for being a God of second, third, and fourth chances. I bless Him for loving me and my family. A family that goes beyond the blood that runs through our veins, a family that consists of praying friends. I bless Him for the courage to love and trust others in spite of. I bless Him for being omnipresent and I bless Him for the daily evidence of HIS love and faithfulness that I sometimes ignore. I also thank Him for Jesus, the Christ. The one who shed His blood for me and you. So in closing, to God Be All The Glory for all the good and bad experiences that draw us closer to Him.

God Made Moms To Teach Their Children...How and Why Christians Celebrate Certain Holidays

This past Easter holiday was a battle for me after I learned the origins of the holiday we Christians celebrate and call Easter. I received an email about three weeks ago explaining how Easter and some of the ways we celebrated it came into existence. I am purposely not going to post the origins story of Easter or the email I received in hopes that you would go out and research the holiday for yourselves. As a Christian, I do recognize the Resurrection of Jesus Christ and the significance it plays in my life. It is because of HIS crucifixion and HIS resurrection that I am able to live today. But I do not plan on recognizing or celebrating Easter the way I have in the past. For over a year now, I've been on a journey seeking God's truth for those that believe in HIM and not what's just been past down over the years without any verification or confirmation. I prayed for a closer relationship with the Father and with the development of that closer relationship some wisdom has come and I pray it continues to come. Friends, me sharing my journey is not about proving anybody or any religious practice wrong,I just want to know that what I know is the truth -- HIS truth. Once I know and understand HIS truth, I am free to do what comes natural and to do what is forever pleasing in God's sight.

God Made Moms To Teach...Be Grateful For What You Have

Good Day Ladies! I just returned from a beautiful cruise with my husband to Cozumel in celebration of my 40th birthday. It was very relaxing and the weather was perfect. I thought I would share some of the things I observed while on the cruise and while in Mexico. I observed people from different cultures and classes enjoying each others company. I observed people from different countries serving some ungrateful American families with a smile. I observed a culture of people going without the everyday luxuries we take advantage of. I observed some people spending their hard earned money to make quick money. I observed people working hard and not complaining about others being too lazy, too messy, or too stingy to leave a tip. I also observed people enjoying life with the simplest of things. I observed life in motion outside of the United States and I can't say we live better lives in comparison to others outside the US, because we do tend to be so ungrateful for all the good things we do have at times. So my tidbit and plea for today is to be grateful for what you do have.

God Made Moms to Teach...We All Have Imperfections

In the world of photoshop and the mental cities of pretense we can easily erase or cover up imperfections. But in the real world we all are walking, talking, and breathing imperfections. There is no perfect woman, man, child, body, or lifestyle. If we would only listen when we interact with others who we have labeled as perfect individuals they voluntarily air all their imperfections. But by no means does this change the look of the person(s) we are now just privy to seeing them in a different light. We all are flawed individuals and we all have our imperfections. We only fool ourselves when we walk around thinking we are not. We are flawed both in and out. To make a point, most of the models and actors/actresses we see on television or on magazines are airbrushed and made up to cover flaws that our eyes would so easily detect but there is always more to what we see. We don't see the whole picture. We don't know what is going on with them when they are not in front of a camera. Even with ourselves, we spend a lot of time and money on hair, clothes, and makeup not just to make ourselves feel good but sometimes to make others think good of us. In hopes of making them think we have it going on as well. Now ladies, can we be described as being superficial or what? The main point I want to drive home is that we all are imperfections wanting to reach perfection and nothing we do on the outside is going to change what's on the inside unless we accept our imperfections along with the grace of God. It is because of imperfection that we are able to receive God's grace and mercy through His son Jesus Christ. God's grace is and always has been sufficient. And one more thing I want to share is that I found out while watching America's Next Top Model that many models are paid top dollar for some of their imperfections, imperfections that make them stick out from other models. Those imperfections don't always make them the best or worst model choice, it just means they may be paid a little more for what makes them different from the rest.

Good Read of The Month

A wake-up call to the black leaders and citizens of America."" -Chicago Defender In The Reckoning, Randall Robinson examines the crime and poverty that grips much of urban America and urges black Americans to speak out and reach back to ensure their social and economic success in this country. With insight, compassion, and unflinching honesty, Robinson explores the twin blights of crime and poverty-the former often a symptom of the latter-and asks questions that are critical to the rebuilding of black communities: How do we create awareness of the heroic efforts already being made and how can we bring our troubled youth to safety? A product of Robinson's work with gang members, ex-convicts, and others who have been scarred by the harshness of life in our inner cities, The Reckoning is certain to be as important and controversial as his earlier books."

God Made Brown Moms To Teach....Not To Give Up

"People Don't Fail They Just Give Up", I saw this on a bank posting this morning and it has stayed with me. There is much truth to the posting because most of the success stories that we hear speak on perseverance and how perseverance brought about the successes. We've all heard Donnie McCurklin's song "We Fall Down But We Get Up", this song encourages us to keep it moving even if we fall. It's focus is on repentance and moving forth in repentance. We encourage smokers and drinkers not to give in to the temptations of smoking or drinking when they are trying to quit because we want to see them successful in their attempt. We tell women in intense labor to keep pushing even when their bodies are exhausted because the baby they've been waiting nine months for will soon be here. Even with the economy, we all are being encouraged to keep spending and investing to push us pass this recession. Pushing past the recession requires us to keep spending and investing but to do it more wisely. Everything surrounding us shows us or tells us that perseverance will pay off. Let's not fail ourselves by giving up on ourselves, our spouses, our children, our goals or dreams. We can do it! Take a note from history. Look at how far we have already come in comparison to the brown folk that came before us, they did not work, slave, save, or sacrifice just for us to give up on our dreams of success.
