God Made Moms To Encourage and...To Teach Their Children To Encourage.

We as mothers and wives can always encourage our kids, our husbands, our friends, and even strangers to reach beyond their potential by speaking life to them. A lot of successful speakers, writers, musicians, actors, cooks, drivers, lawyers, and politicians had someone to water the good seeds in them. Good seeds that bloomed into something bigger and better. Help build someone up by saying something good that will encourage them to do and be BETTER than what they are now.

If you are good, be better. - Anonymous

Be Not Afraid ( Michelle Obama )

I know I've become a little "Obama" crazed but it's hard not to be. I like and truly enjoy seeing and hearing Barack and Michelle. Michelle Obama is a true sista in my eyes. A beautiful brown sista who is openly supportive of her husband and what he believes in. She's not standing in the background, she's standing with her husband, and working beside her husband. Michelle appears to me to be one of those ride or die chicks. Obama is BLESSED to have her. I'm happy for the sista. Can't you tell?

I'm in agreement with Barack and Michelle when I say "Yes, we can". We being Americans, we being people of color, we being wives, and we being mothers.

Be blessed and encouraged today, it's our choice!

Good Read Of The Month

The Beautiful Struggle: A Father, Two Sons, and an Unlikely Road to Manhood written by Ta-Nehisi Coates

I have decided to add a booklist to the blog. Every month I'll post a book I am reading, have read, or plan on reading and those of you who are interested can read the book along with me and we can share our opinions on the read later. You guys can also suggest books and I'll post them as well. This is my version of an online book club.

Tuesday Tidbit

Recently I had been having a issue with a close friend and after feeling bummed out about it for a while, I decided to address the issue. Well after addressing what I thought was a issue, I didn't get the kind of response I expected or desired. I can't blame the way I'm feeling on my friend or anyone else, I'm the only one who can control "my feelings". What matters most is that I remain a friend. Do you ladies remember the old saying "a friend in need is a friend in deed"? Well I found out that I was that friend in need and that Jesus is a friend to me ALWAYS and especially when I'm in need. I'm closing this tidbit with a youtube video post of praise and worship at my church and I've included the lyrics to the song. I also want to include that the young lady singing was my son Idris's third grade teacher. This is my shout out to Mrs. Caines on her teaching and singing abilities.

LYRICS
What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear! What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer! O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear, all because we do not carry everything to God in prayer.
Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere? We should never be discouraged; take it to the Lord in prayer. Can we find a friend so faithful who will all our sorrows share? Jesus knows our every weakness; take it to the Lord in prayer.
Are we weak and heavy laden, cumbered with a load of care? Precious Savior, still our refuge; take it to the Lord in prayer. Do thy friends despise, forsake thee? Take it to the Lord in prayer! In his arms he'll take and shield thee; thou wilt find a solace there.

The Man In Charge

Ladies, this is what I'm talking about, Barack ain't playing about his woman and we need to recognize that. I ran across this quote from a commentary on BlackAmericaWeb.Com, it's what Barack had to say about the GOP trying to start attacks against his beautiful brown wife Michelle.

"If they think that they're going to try to make Michelle an issue in this campaign, they should be careful," Obama told ABC's "Good Morning America" last month, "because that I find unacceptable the notion that you start attacking my wife or my family."

Hats off to Barack for representing as a husband and a father. He is truly a man of valor. Much respect to him and his wife, two dignified folk.

Celebrate the Fathers

Ladies, celebrate Father's Day by recognizing the men you know who are fathers. Your fathers, your grandfathers, your stepfathers, your brothers, your uncles, your nephews, your neighbors, your friends, your in-laws, your sons, your grandsons, your pastors, and whomever else in your circle who is a father. Allow our children to see us encourage and support the fathers we know. Our children will one day be fathers and mothers, let's start nurturing the future fathers in our sons and teaching our daughters to appreciate the fathers and father figures around them. Wish all the fathers around you a Happy Father's Day.

God Made Moms To Teach Their Children.....There Is Such A Thing As A Lying Spirit.

This morning's tidbit piggybacks off of last week's tidbit about being true to self by telling the truth. I'm going to use a quote from "The Power Of A Praying Parent" by Stormie Omartian to bring my point home.

"Pray now that any lying spirit will be uprooted-not only in your children, but in yourself as well. We need to reject the way of lying and follow the truth. We need to be an example to our children."

Great new show for me and possibly for you! My friend Cassandra and I have a lot of common interests/hobbies from books to movies and now this show. The show is in it's second season and I just watched the new season's first episode over the Internet and loved it. I'm now catching up on the first season by watching/listening to the full episodes via Internet, helps the day or night go by faster :)

God Made Moms To Teach Their Children....To Be True To Self.

This one is going to get right to the point by expressing the need of teaching our children to be true to self by telling the truth. Ever had a friend to tell you a lie and wonder why they lied. Please believe if we tell one lie, big or small -- we are liars! Yes, I have told lies and I've been told lies but who are we really lying to. Speak the truth even if what is being said isn't liked or expected. Be true to self because when your not being true to self your only hurting self....yourself. I tell my children all the time if you make a habit of not telling the truth and people know or expect your not telling the truth you are now labeled a "liar" and one day you may be telling the truth but no one is going to believe you because you've been known to tell lies. So again teach our children to be true to self by telling and speaking the truth, it's too many grown folk lying about nonsense and end up looking foolish for it. Know that stretching the truth is the beginning process of telling a lie, we are and can continue to be overcomers by staying true to self.

1 John 4:4 You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.

Proverbs 12:17 A truthful witness gives honest testimony, but a false witness tells lies.

Jeremiah 9:5 Friend deceives friend, and no one speaks the truth. They have taught their tongues to lie; they weary themselves with sinning.

Ephesians 4:25 Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to his neighbor, for we are all members of one body.
