God Made Moms....To Teach Their Children The Names of God
Our God has many names. Each name represent who and what He is when we call on HIM. A lot of things I'm just learning myself so I am sharing as I learn. We all should read our Bibles as well as other historical doctrines and research the God we serve and teach our children what's right from the jump start. My youngest son is always asking about Jesus and God. I was taught that the trinity is God, Jesus, and the Holy spirit - that the one God exists in three Persons and one substance. How do I explain this to a four year old? I start out with one, God our heavenly Father, our Lord. JEHOVAH is LORD in our English Bibles. Yahweh is the covenant name of God.
I've listed some names of God and what the names represent in God.
Jehovah-raah -- the shepard
Jehovah-jireh -- the provider
Jehovah-shalom -- the peace
Jehovah-rophe -- the healer
Jehovah-missi -- the banner that guides
Be blessed and encouraged today, it's your choice. ~Delphine

Greetings Delphine
You said "My youngest son is always asking about Jesus and God. I was taught that the trinity is God, Jesus, and the Holy spirit - that the one God exists in three Persons and one substance. How do I explain this to a four year old?"
Answer: YOU DON'T!
What I mean is, what does Scripture emphatically state that we ought to teach children?
Answer: Deut 6.4-7
(Deu 6:4-7) Hear, O Israel:
The LORD our God is one LORD:
5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. 6 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: 7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
I quote these verses because Jesus the Messiah, call this verses (commonly known as the Shema) as the first or greatest of all the commandments in Mark 12:28-34!!
This was therefore, Jesus' creed!
Jesus was never taught the trinity; nor in fact, were any Jews of his era!
The Shema defines that
YAHWEH GOD Alone is ONE!
Hence, when Jesus quotes this verse, note the scribe's response:
(Mark 12:32) And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he:
It is obvious then, that neither Jesus nor the scribes believed in a trinity?!?
No, they recognized solely ONE Being, ONE Person as GOD.
Jesus identifies who that ONE GOD is:
(John 17:1) These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, ...(John 17:3) And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
Jesus identifies the Father as the only true GOD!
Paul (as well as the rest of the early church) followed their Master's teaching:
(1 Cor 8:4) ... that there is none other God but one.
(1 Cor 8:6) But to us there is but one God, the Father, ...
So who is Jesus? GOD's Son.
So there is ONE GOD, the Father.
And the man, Jesus our Lord, is GOD's Son!
(1 Tim 2:5) For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men,
the man Christ Jesus;
The holy spirit is simply the presence of both GOD and Christ in the church, in believers.
[John 14.23]
So a four year old can understand that?
There is ONE GOD, the Father.
He alone is GOD as defined in Deut 6.4-5, Mark 12:29-30.
We ought to love HIM with all our hearts.
Jesus is GOD's human Son.
Who died for our sins
(Something GOD CANNOT DO, GOD CANNOT DIE!! [1 Tim 6.16])
GOD raised Jesus from the dead and made him 'Lord';
The Lord Jesus is now in Heaven
at GOD's right hand.
[Acts 2.34-36]
Deut 6.4 was what Jesus was taught. It was his creed. Seeing that it is our Master's creed, it should also be our creed, as well as your children's.
Don't try and teach your child the trinity, seeing that neither Jesus nor any of his disciples ever taught it!
That is my humble advise to you, Delphine.
